Unconditional Love - Part 5

Walking beside Cathy was a guy who appeared to be her schoolmate. They seemed to be having a great time teasing each other as they strode towards the school. The guy, Gary, was poking fun at Cathy’s gravy-soiled school skirt while she was prodding at his similarly stained tee. Pierre, who had captured their every bodily contact with his raging eyes, ran up to them and pushed the chuckling Gary against the school gate. He raised his fist, only to land it on the gate’s pillar. Both Cathy and Gary were startled by the unexpected turn of event and didn’t know how to react. Though Cathy was stunned to see Pierre, she was more disturbed by what appeared to her to be an irrational conduct. However, before she could say anything, Pierre pointed a finger at her and accused her of two-timing him. He then dashed across the road and disappeared among some blocks of flats. Bewildered by his uncalled-for remark, Cathy didn’t know if she should be pissed or upset. When Gary approached her to find out what had just transpired, Cathy apologised for Pierre’s abnormal behaviour and assured him that it was just a misunderstanding.

Expecting Cathy to call him to explain her betrayal, Pierre felt uneasy when he didn’t hear from her by the end of the day, which was so unlike the usual her. Then he began to wonder if he had overreacted or had he wrongly accused her. Why then did she keep mum about the cancellation of her choir practice? He was confused but yet he wasn’t ready to put his pride down to call her for the truth. However, by the third day, the torment had become too much for him to bear and he finally decided to get to the bottom of his doubts. He contacted Doris and what she told him caused his heart to miss a beat. Doris informed him that Cathy had had enough of his unreasonable demands and had decided to call off the relationship. Pierre, who did not see that coming, didn’t know how to respond and was definitely not prepared to accept it. It was Cathy who had cheated on him and yet he was the one being jilted. Sensing his inability to comprehend what was happening, Doris clarified that Cathy didn’t two-time him as she was never romantically involved with Gary. What he witnessed that day had been misinterpreted by him. Though their choir practice had been cancelled, being the seniors of the group, they had been tasked to continue to train the juniors and as such the weekly practice had actually never been suspended. On that eventful day, one of the juniors had accidentally emptied his bowl of mee soto on them while they were having their break at a nearby coffee shop. They were on their way back to school to wash up when he spotted them.

Realising how absurd and harsh he must have been to them, Pierre regretted his rash action and begged Doris to help him to patch things up. Doris, however, responded negatively, claiming that Cathy was really devastated to be labelled a two-timer, especially when it came from him. She maintained that Cathy had sounded determined and that there wasn’t anything she could do to change her mind. She went on to hint that Cathy wouldn’t be available to entertain his call either. Pierre grew desperate and couldn’t hold back his tears. Somehow amid the emotional upheaval, he realised that there was still a chance for him to get Cathy back. He pleaded with Doris to convince Cathy to visit his blog later that evening. Doris agreed to try but wouldn’t guarantee that she would be able to persuade her to do so.

What Pierre had in mind was to use the very thing that had brought Cathy into his life – his voice. He planned to use it again to recapture her heart. Picking one of Cathy’s favourite sentimental songs, he spent the next few hours rewriting the lyrics and singing it out loud, to the amazement of his sister. Though baffled by what he was doing, she was touched by his version of the song. After getting her nod, Pierre got her to videotape his singing. Once satisfied with the recording, he uploaded it onto YouTube. He wanted the whole world to witness his plea for Cathy’s forgiveness and hopefully that would move her enough to want to be with him again.

Meanwhile, Cathy who had been waiting anxiously for Doris’ update, couldn’t help but worried if their plan would turn out as expected. What if Pierre didn’t fall for it? What if he didn’t react the way they had wanted him to? What if he didn't .............................................
